CNFM, a national educational organization that promotes microelectronics education in France, started the program ” One board, one student” three years ago with the help from Xilinx University Program and Digilent. The goal of the program is to give or loan an FPGA development board manufactured by Digilent and powered by a Xilinx chip to each engineering student at the master’s or undergraduate level. This program has already proven successful where it was implemented in POLYTECH Montpellier. Students and professors found this program useful for both learning and teaching, as students have an additional tool for developing their own projects outside the lab or classroom. The selected FPGA development board is suitable for many lessons in embedded electronics, including HDL languages, logic design/synthesis, reconfigurable architectures, processor architectures/SoC, embedded C programming, real time OS, etc.
This year, with the help from Xilinx University Program, Digilent, and their EU partner Trenz Electronics, we can launch the program to bring the latest technology to more students. Two Digilent boards — the Basys 3 Artix-7 FPGA Board and the ZYBO Zynq™-7000 Development Board — both powered by the Xilinx 7-series were selected to be in the program. The Basys 3 is an entry-level FPGA board designed exclusively for the Vivado Design Suite, featuring Xilinx Artix 7-FPGA architecture. The ZYBO is a feature-rich, ready-to-use, entry-level embedded software and digital circuit development platform built around the smallest member of the Xilinx Zynq-7000 family, the Z-7010.
